Where do invisible characters come from?

They're often introduced accidentally when copying text from word processors, tracking links, or messaging apps.

Which characters does this remove?

Zero-width spaces, no-break and word joiners, the BOM, soft hyphens, text-direction marks, invisible math operators, filler characters, Unicode tag characters and control characters. Unusual spaces such as the no-break space become a normal space. Each group has its own switch.
